网络影视接连不断的高调露面，使不少人为刚刚起步的数字电视捏一把汗，有人甚至得出“数字电视前景堪忧”的结论。对此，中国传媒大学广播电视研究中心 主任胡正荣[Hu Zhengrong]教授表示，这种担心没有必要。他说，网络电视、IP电视等不会成为真正电视业态的竞争对手。得出这样的结论，有几个重要原因，第一个是技术原 因，到现在为止中国的互联网技术还没有发达到足以影响传统电视的水平，另外从互联网的普及率来说，中国城市里电视的普及率已经到了126％，但是电脑的普 及率只有20％多，而且局域网的视频、音频被压缩之后的质量很差；第二是行业壁垒之间的制约因素，目前的广电和电信依然是两个不同的行业，中国最大的内容 生产商还是广电系统自己，电信只是做网络部分，也就是渠道部分，它没有内容，而现在办IP电视、网络电视的往往电信企业的人，他们在内容方面还是很匮乏 的；第三个制约因素是政策，特别是播出内容方面，国家的政策控制还是非常严的。因此，网络影视就算将来发展起来了，最多也不过是传统电视的一个补充而已。 (全文…)

The Chinese government’s recent crackdown on free speech, particularly on the Internet, does not provide an accurate picture of the country’s media industry, according to Zhengrong Hu, a professor at Communication University of China, who spoke recently at Penn’s Annenberg School of Communication. The media industry, like Chinese history itself, is evolving sporadically, he said — “one step forward, two steps back,” but forward nonetheless. (全文…)

The International Conference on Chinese Television and Globalization was held October 28 -29, 2005 at Duke University, sponsored by Duke Program in Chinese Media and Communication Studies, the Dewitt Wallace Center for Media and Democracy, Sanford Institute of Public Policy, the Provost Office, and Asian/Pacific Studies Institute.

Zhengrong Hu, a professor at the Communication University of China, focused his research on the Chinese press and the factors that might influence future government policy relating to the media.
